Peng Su , Joon Young Han DOI: AbstractThe purpose of this study is to discover the effect of coaches' transformational leadership onto athletes' job satisfaction and team performance in Chinese professional basketball leagues. According to the purpose of the study, 384 athletes from the Chinese professional basketball league matches, namely CBA (Chinese Basketball Association) and WCBA (Women's Chinese Basketball Association), were surveyed by questionnaire on the transformational leadership ability of their coaches. Frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), validity analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted on 358 valid questionnaires. The significance level of all statistical tests in this study was set to 'alpha = .05'. Based on the results of the survey and analysis, conclusions were as follows. Firstly, transformational leadership of Chinese professional basketball coaches has an effective positive (+) influence on athletes' job satisfaction. Second, part of the transformational leadership behavior of Chinese professional basketball coaches has an effective positive (+) influence on team performance. A total of nine participants were selected from soccer, baseball, and basketball athletes who were currently participating in the intramural league through snow-ball sampling. Data was collected from interviews and the observation of the intramural sports athletes. Coding was conducted as a first step, and group categorization followed. For the validity of the study, a peer review was conducted by one leisure studies professor and two doctoral students of leisure studies. After the data analysis, the motivation for President’s Cup participation, impression changes regarding the President’s Cup, addiction to the President’s Cup, and fun factor of the President’s Cup were drawn as the results. Building interpersonal relationships, improvement of skills, and desire to participate in the event regularly were found as the sub-factors of fun experience concerning the President’s Cup. Jinhee Yoo , Seok-pyo Hong DOI: AbstractUnited States Olympic Committee (USOC) is a federally-chartered, non-profit organization that supports the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes through their national governing bodies (NGBs), providing financial support and jointly working to develop customized and impactful athlete support and coaching education programs. However, the USOC must find a way to better aid the athletes in an effective and efficient manner as the USOC is not funded by the federal government of the United States. As such, the USOC allocate financial aid to NGBs based on the potential for success at the international level, underscoring the importance it places on Team USA's medal count. The performance-based funding policy of the USOC was reviewed based on a qualitative content analysis and analyzed from ethical perspectives. Recommendations were followed by the policy analysis. Hyun-ju Jeon , Jung-hee Baek , Sangjoon An DOI: AbstractThis study compared the effects of positive and negative feedback provided to students learning dance. 28 female students learned to perform the traditional Korean drum dance called Jangguchum, in 60 sessions over two weeks. Half of students received a positive feedback on their performance during the learning phase, while the other half were given a negative feedback. Using the criterion for evaluation standard of Korean dance, experts rated the students’ performances 3 times; before the first session, immediately after the last session, and a week later. The results showed that the effects of positive feedback for performance are greater than that of negative feedback in learning dance. Yonghwan Kim , Haemi Jee DOI: AbstractProfessional athletes need to maintain certain level of physical fitness level regardless of existence of chronic pain. A training program to maintain the fitness level without aggravating pain should be introduced. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of a short-term conditioning training for 3 weeks during off-season in elite college soccer players to improve physical fitness level and chronic pain. A total of 53 elite collegiate soccer players were divided in to pain (n=23) and healthy (n=30) groups. A short questionnaire, body composition, physical fitness, isokinetic muscle strength, and anaerobic tests were performed before and after the program. Pain was assessed using the visual analogue scale (VAS). Training program composed of aerobic, functional, anaerobic power, weight training and isokinetic. The program excluded excessively distressing actions such as high jump or sprint. Pre and post comparisons showed significant changes in muscle (%) and fat (%) in the pain group and weight (kg), muscle, and fat in the healthy group. Flexibility (cm) was significantly increased in the pain group and reaction time (msec), balance (sec), and sit up (rep) were significantly improved in the healthy group. Significant improvements were shown in all flexion and extension isokinetic strength in both groups. Significant reductions were shown in the pain group during both resting and training. Results indicate that a short-term exercise intervention improved or maintained muscle strength and physical fitness to the level of healthy soccer players without aggravating chronic pain.
